Iran denies Western media report on enrichment constraints

A senior Iranian nuclear negotiator has dismissed a report by the Associated Press on the possibility of Tehran’s acceptance of new constraints on its uranium enrichment program during the ongoing sensitive talks between Iran and the P5+1 group.

The Iranian negotiator said on Sunday that the report included “inaccurate points including the shipment of uranium from Iran to Russia.”

“The release of such news by some Western media is in line with [media] hype aimed at derailing the trend of negotiations," the official said, describing the report as a "futile and unprofessional measure.”

Earlier on Sunday, the Associated Press quoted two Western officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, as saying that Iran and the P5+1 countries are advancing on limits to aspects of Iran's uranium enrichment program.

They claimed that Iran had agreed to be allowed to keep 6,000 centrifuges enriching uranium instead of its previously demanded 10,000, adding that Tehran now may be ready to accept even less.

The two Western officials also claimed that Iran is ready to ship out all of the enriched uranium it produces to Russia.

The reports came after a member of the Iranian negotiating team, Hamid Baeedinejad, said on Wednesday that all outstanding issues pertaining to Tehran's nuclear program should be resolved in the ongoing talks in the Swiss city of Lausanne.

He said all issues are considered as a single package and should be resolved at the same time.

"All these issues are interrelated. Sanctions, [uranium] enrichment, research and development are issues which should be resolved together and in single package," Baeedinejad added.

Iran and the P5+1 countries - the US, Britain, France, Russia and China plus Germany - have been negotiating to reach a comprehensive deal on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program. The two sides have set July 1 as the deadline for a final agreement.
