New York police officer ‘rapes teenage girl’

Sosa appears for arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court on Tuesday.

An American police officer from the New York Police Department has been charged with raping a 16-year-old girl he met at a church, according to authorities.

Vladimir Sosa, who is a 7-year NYPD veteran, was arrested on Tuesday morning.

The police officer and the girl had sex at least three times over the course of a year, police said.

Sosa, who is also a pastor, met the girl at his church youth program.

“He abused his two positions of authority, both public and vestal,” Bronx Assistant District Attorney Joelle Morabito said.

The 38-year-old officer was charged with three counts of rape, criminal sexual act, two counts of sexual misconduct, endangering the welfare of a child and sexual abuse.

The case was revealed when the girl’s mother found incriminating evidence on the victim's cell phone.

The officer was released on his own recognizance after being arraigned at Bronx Criminal Court on Tuesday.
