Obama not seriously after creation of Palestinian state: Richard Forer

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US president Barack Obama

A political commentator says US President Barack Obama would speak out against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies if he really wanted a Palestinian state.

Obama should “tell the American people what Israel has been doing to the Palestinian people in the West Bank and especially in Gaza is inhumane and violation of international law,” Richard Forer, author of Transforming Fear into Compassion, told Press TV in a phone interview on Monday.

He believes that a “personal vendetta” between Netanyahu and Obama that prompted Washington to threaten to take actions at the UN in support of the creation of a Palestinian state is not going to go very far.

“Whereas the United States is considering this possibility, in a way it’s a personal vendetta between Obama and Netanyahu; and I don’t think it’s going to go very far.” Forer said.

“Because Israel and its lobby in the United States will bring a great deal of pressure on the Obama’s administration and of course Congress will erupt and probably pass resolutions of their own unanimously, calling for the United States not to do something like that at the United Nations,” he added.

The analyst made the remarks while commenting on Obama’s statements after Netanyahu rejected the two-state solution during his leadership.

Before he won March 17 election, Netanyahu said that if he was reelected to office, the Palestinians would not get the independent state they seek in the occupied West Bank, East al-Quds (Jerusalem) and Gaza.

“The next president, whether it’s Hillary Clinton or a Republican, would probably backtrack,” Forer noted.

“How many American administrations have claimed that they wanted the two-state solution?” he concluded. “They have done nothing to promote the two-state solution in any really intelligent way and it always enabled the Israelis to get away literally with murder.”
