The US aircraft carrier, USS Theodore Roosevelt has anchored off the coast of Hampshire in the UK before heading to the Middle East on its global deployment, says report.

The warship is moored off the coast as it was “too big” to sail into the Royal Navy's Portsmouth dockyard, Daily Mail reported.

With 90 aircraft on board, and more than 5,000 American sailors on the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the ship is making its first port of call during a round-the-world deployment after a 5-day UK visit.

The report said USS Theodore Roosevelt will be on its way to the Middle East where it is expected to take part in airstrikes against the ISIL.

The Nimitz-class warship will be the second US aircraft carrier to join the strikes after USS Carl Vinson in the Persian Gulf. The French carrier Charles de Gaulle is the only other carrier that has already taken part in the operation.
