US, Israel fomenting violence in Ukraine, not Russia: Former US Senate candidate

Mark Dankof says the US, EU and Israel are fomenting violence in eastern Ukraine, not Russia or alleged ethnic Russian rebels.

A former US Senate candidate says the United States, the European Union and Israel are fomenting violence in eastern Ukraine, not Russia or pro-Russian forces.

Mark Dankof, a political commentator and broadcaster in San Antonio, Texas, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Thursday while commenting on latest US threats to Russia over Ukraine.

On Wednesday, the US called on its allies to be ready to impose more sanctions on Russia if Moscow does not stop meddling in Ukraine.

"As long as Russia continues to fuel violence and instability in Ukraine, the international community must be prepared to increase the costs to Russia for pursuing such actions," the White House said in a statement.

Dankof said that “it is an absolutely incredible statement coming from the White House, this accusation that ‘Russia is fueling violence and instability’ in Ukraine, because that’s precisely what  the United States and the European Union and Israel have been fomenting in the Ukraine with the overthrow of Viktor Yanukovych’s regime in February 2014.”

“We have the evidence… that Victoria Nuland, the American Undersecretary of State for European [and Eurasian] Affairs, and neoconservative Robert Kagan were discussing with the American ambassador to Ukraine the five billion dollars, minimum, that the United States was funneling into groups and organizations in the that country, including the National Endowment for Democracy, to overthrow the Yanukovych regime,” he stated.

“The United States was even using the neo-Nazis and fascist organizations to bring this regime change to bear” in Ukraine, he added.

“Of course, we have seen nothing but the atrocities in the eastern part of Ukraine that have been fomented and instigated by the regime in Kiev that the United States has installed,” Dankof noted.

“I am referring to these massacres of ethnic Russians in Donbass and Donetsk. I am referring to the shoot-down of the Malaysian aircraft MH17, where all of the circumstantial evidence in that situation points not to the Russians, not to these alleged Russian ethnic rebels, but everything points directly to the regime in Kiev, that the United States, the European Union and Israel have installed,” he pointed out.

Russia has been targeted by a series of sanctions imposed by the United States and some of its European allies over allegations that Moscow is arming and supporting pro-Russian forces fighting in eastern Ukraine. The Kremlin, however, calls the accusation "groundless.”
