Iran showing true power in region by fighting terror: Analyst

Iraqi forces take positions in the northern part of Diyala Province, which borders Salahuddin Province, as they take part in an assault to retake the city of Tikrit from ISIL militants, March 2, 2015.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Danny Makki, a Middle East expert, in London, and Daniel Pipes, a historian and political commentator, in Philadelphia, to discuss the Iraqi operations to recapture the city of Tikrit from the Takfiri ISIL terrorist group.

Makki says there is a sort of consensus between Iran and the United States over confronting the advance of the Takfiri terrorists in Iraq, adding that through providing the Iraqi forces with fundamental assistance, Iran has shown its true power in the region in fighting terror.

Meanwhile, Pipes says that in the absence of the American troops, as they were not welcome by Baghdad, there remains no doubt that Iran would be the major player in the fight against the ISIL.
