Rouhani urges serious efforts to materialize economic growth

Iran's President Rouhani has urged serious efforts to push ahead economic plans.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday called on his ministers to put serious efforts into the implementation of economic policies to materialize the country’s positive growth.

Rouhani, speaking at a cabinet meeting, emphasized that a positive economic growth would help provide solutions for maladies such as unemployment and poverty.

He further lauded the performance of the Ministry of Economy and Financial Affairs in following up the implementation of policies that have been designed to take Iran out of recession.

“Iran has distanced from negative growth and has even witnessed some positive growth over the past months,” Rouhani has been quoted as saying by IRNA state news agency.

“Nevertheless, we are still far away from the growth that has set in the 2025 Perspective Plan as well the Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2010-2015),” he said.

The 2025 Perspective Plan that was approved in 2005 envisages a roadmap for the country’s economic, political, social and cultural developments within a period of two decades.  Based on it, Iran would become a fully advanced country, rising to the number-one rank in economic, scientific and technological progress in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

The Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2010-2015) – which is the fifth issue of the country’s short-term economic prosperity plans – have been specifically designed to materialized the goals set in the 2025 Perspective Plan.  It a collection of policies that are largely meant to delegate power to the people and develop a knowledge economy.
