Israeli PM speech to US Congress, great miscalculation: Parsi

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addresses a joint meeting of Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington, May 24, 2011.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Trita Parsi, an award-winning author, from Washington on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's upcoming speech to the Republican-dominated US Congress.

The political commentator said the planned address, which has not been coordinated with the White House, seems to have been a great miscalculation on the part of the Israeli premier and his allies in the US form the Republican Party.

Parsi added that Netanyahu is going ahead with his controversial speech on Iranian nuclear issue, despite all the opposition and concerns, only to accomplish minor political gains at home in the upcoming Israeli election.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the analyst pointed out that any anti-Iran legislation by the US Congress at this point would be considered as an interference in the ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the nuclear dispute with Iran.
