It is has been dubbed ‘the Muslim Manifesto’ a nationwide consultation process bringing together issues of concern to the Muslim community in Britain ahead of the 2015 polls. With the manifesto still in the draft phase, those in attendance wanted to highlight some of the reasons this very concept was critical.

Muslims account for nearly 5% of the population but continue to be overrepresented in the prison system, unemployment, police stop and search and falling educational standards.

A re-occurring theme with the Muslim community leaders is that they do not require special treatments they want equal treatment so they can continue to contribute to a Britain that they have already given so much to.

The manifesto has already highlighted 33 points of concern for the Muslim community – from addressing health and well-being to committing to an ethical foreign policy but there are additional plans to get more public imput.

The hope is for greater public participation.

Muslim issues will only be placed higher on the political agenda if there is ownership from the community. Organisers say the Muslim Manifesto is a step in the right direction.
