Nine killed in Czech restaurant shooting

A gunman has opened fire at a restaurant in eastern Czech Republic, killing nine people and injuring at least one person.

Patrik Kuncar, mayor of Uhersky Brod, said one woman has been injured in the shooting in the eastern Czech town of Uhersky Brod, 300 km (180 miles) southeast of Prague, on Tuesday.

"According to our information, there are nine dead on the spot," Czech television channel, Ceska Televize (CT), reported.

Following the attack, Interior Minister Milan Chovanec said the 60-year-old gunman who was among the dead was mentally ill.

Pavel Benedikt Stransky, a spokesman for police, did not confirm the information released by the state television, but said the gunman "has already been subdued."

According to reports the gunmen entered the restaurant around noon and started shooting randomly. No further details on the deadly incident have been released yet.
