A FIFA task force has recommended that holding the Qatar 2022 World Cup in November-December is the only solution to avoid the scorching summer heat in the Middle Eastern country.

“There is... one solution coming out from these discussions which is November-December 2022,” said FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke after a meeting of the task force in Qatar’s capital city of Doha on Tuesday.

“The proposed event dates have the full support of all six confederations,” a FIFA statement said, adding, “The outcome of the discussions is also a proposed reduced competition days schedule with the exact dates to be defined in line with the match schedule and number of venues to be used for the 22nd edition of football’s flagship event.”

European clubs and leagues are unwilling to accept the proposal, which forces them to halt their matches in midseason.

The final decision will be made by FIFA’s executive committee at a March 19-20 meeting at the headquarters of the world football governing body in the Swiss city of Zurich.

Qatar has seen controversy over the timing of the tournament that is traditionally held in July and June, when the temperatures in the Persian Gulf country exceed 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit).
