Iran has fully coopertaed with IAEA: Najafi

Iran’s ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency Reza Najafi

Press TV correspondent Homa lezgee has conducted an interview with Iran’s ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Reza Najafi, to discuss a leaked report by the IAEA about Iran’s nuclear energy program.

Press TV: Mr. Najafi, there has been a leaked report from the IAEA claiming that Iran has not been cooperating with the IAEA in two key areas concerning practical measures and with regards to PMD and we also know that it is in regard with Marivan site. Can you give us an explanation about the leak?

Najafi: Well indeed, the new report of the director general of the IAEA contains three parts, if you want to explain it in a nutshell. The major part is related to the implementation of the safeguard agreements, which indicates the IAEA has full monitoring over all places and activities with details of the locations, the number of centrifuges, the amount of materials whether enriched or not enriched, even the number of fuel plates produced by Iran.

The other part of the report is related to the implementation of the voluntary measures Iran agreed in Geneva under the JPA or Joint Plan of Action.

The third part which is a repetition of the allegations, of course without presenting any kind of evidence, in our view, the repetition of such claims would not add to the value of such claims and the leaks to the media relates to that part.

Of course we agreed with the agency on the practical measures. We completed most of them. From 18 practical measures, we completed 16 of them. With regard to the two remaining practical measures, we discussed with the agency; we provided the details and for getting out of the impasse that we are in, we offered managed access to the so-called region of Marivan, which is a claim and allegation in the report of the agency of November 2011.

So it is up to the agency to ask those member states who gave the information, or in our view wrong information, to the agency to enable the agency to verify the claims and allegations.

In our view, Iran does not have any other obligation to provide more information and it is up to the other countries to try to solve this problem.

Press TV: And very quickly, can you tell us about the level of cooperation that the IAEA has conceded in its report from Iran because the leaks we get in the media also most of the time referred to the controversies or the contradictions, etc., but we know that the IAEA has also been speaking positively about the level of Iran’s cooperation both with the IAEA and with respect to the Joint Plan of Action?

Najafi: Well, in our view, the report has itself testified to Iran’s cooperation. Iran has cooperated completely and indeed made the possibility for the IAEA to verify all aspects of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and in our view, the technical details of the report show the full transparency on behalf of Iran. So the claims which leaked to some media do not have any basis.

We are sure that when the report comes out and would be published to the public, the public opinion will judge about that.
