A group of Palestinian Christians have called on the international community to step up the fight against the ISIL Takfiri militants following the mass execution of 21 Egyptian Copts at the hands of the terrorists.

Some 200 Christians staged a candlelit march in al-Quds (Jerusalem) on Wednesday to mourn the Copts who were savagely beheaded by the ISIL militants.

They carried four cardboard coffins with gold crosses as well as banners showing the pictures of the killed Coptic Christians.

"We call on the international community to respond to the killing of innocents," one banner read.

A demonstrator said the participants want to express their solidarity with Egyptians and Copts, “and to show how sad Palestinian Christians and Muslim friends are” about the killings.

"It doesn't make up for the barbaric way they were slaughtered, so we pray for this region to wake up and reject [ISIL]," Nashat Filmon, 39, said.

Joseph George, 25, asked the international community to mount its battle against the ISIL terrorist group.

"If the US could destroy [former Iraqi dictator] Saddam Hussein's regime in a week, why can't they do it to a small group?" he asked.

The ISIL released a five-minute video on Sunday, showing the beheading of the Christian hostages kidnapped in Libya.

The video showed the handcuffed hostages dressed in orange jumpsuits, similar to previous ISIL victims, kneeling down along the seaside near the Libyan capital city of Tripoli.

The ISIL had earlier published the photos of the 21 Egyptian workers, claiming that the pictures were taken moments before their decapitation. The workers were reportedly abducted in the Libyan coastal city of Sirte in two attacks in January and December last year.
