ISIL fighting losing battle in Iraq: IRGC commander

Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, the commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps

The ISIL terrorist group is fighting a losing battle in Iraq, Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, the commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), says.

“When the ISIL began terrorist acts in Iraq, no country like Iran rushed with determination to help the Iraqi nation destroy the ISIL,” Jafari said on Saturday.

He added that the world has been shocked by the failure of the ISIL militants who have been drawing up plans for years.

Iran has repeatedly stressed that it will not interfere militarily in Iraq and Syria, but the Islamic Republic continues to provide support for both countries against ISIL in the form of defense consultancy and humanitarian aid.

ISIL that started its campaign of terror in Iraq in early June 2014, now controls parts of Iraq and neighboring Syria.

The terrorists have been carrying out horrific acts of violence, including public decapitations, against all Iraqi communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians.
