All options on table regarding Iran, Israeli minister utters

Israel’s Intelligence Affairs Minister Yuval Steinitz

The intelligence affairs minister of the Israeli regime says Tel Aviv could act unilaterally against Iran over its nuclear energy program despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to sign a nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of world powers.

“I won’t be too specific but all options are still on the table,” Yuval Steinitz stated on Thursday, adding that “diplomatic constraints” will not enmesh Israel’s decision-making.

The Israeli official claimed Tehran has shown little or no flexibility in the nuclear negotiations with the P5+1 group, saying he had discussed Tel Aviv’s concerns with Yukiya Amano, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference last week.

“The Iranians didn’t move much... therefore we are so disturbed,” Steinitz claimed.

He also reiterated the rhetoric of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about singing a ‘bad’ deal with Tehran and claimed that the agreement currently being discussed by the two sides in talks is “full of loopholes.”

Netanyahu’s rhetoric

On February 8, the Israeli prime minister said Tel Aviv “will do everything and will take any action to foil this bad and dangerous agreement.”

The remarks by Netanyahu came after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said Iran would rather not sign any nuclear agreement with the P5+1 than strike a deal that contradicts the interests of the Iranian nation.

The Leader also stated that Tehran has acted logically in the course of the negotiations, while the other side seeks to blackmail the Iranians.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – Russia, China, France, Britain and the United States – plus Germany are seeking to seal a high-profile political deal by the end of March and to confirm the full technical details of the accord by July 1.

The scale of Iran’s uranium enrichment and the timetable for the removal of anti-Iran sanctions are seen as the major stumbling blocks in the talks.
