US shows ‘aggression’ in relations with China: Dean Henderson

Dean Henderson

The Pentagon’s decision not to send an aircraft carrier to China in order to expand military ties with the country and accusing Beijing of aggression are another “act of aggression” by Washington, a US columnist says.

“Bullies and aggressors often do this. They accuse the other side of being the aggressor when they themselves are the aggressors,” Dean Henderson from Veterans Today said in a phone interview with Press TV on Sunday.

He made the remarks after Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren said on Friday the United States would not send the carrier due to concerns over Beijing’s actions in the Pacific.

Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee Sen. John McCain called on top Pentagon officials not to send the wrong signal to US allies and partners throughout the region.

“Sending such a platform to China would be seen as an international display of respect to China and its Navy, despite Beijing’s recent record of aggressive behavior in the East and South China Seas,” McCain wrote in a letter.

The columnist also noted that he was not sure what McCain meant when he was talking about China’s aggressive behavior in the South and East China Seas.

“The United States is going to wake up and begin to basically get a whole new set of allies,” Henderson said.

Tensions in the Asia-Pacific region escalated in recent years over disputed areas of the South China Sea and the East China Sea.
