‘Obama seeking Congress permission to use force against ISIL’

Obama will send "specific language" of an AUMF to Congress "relatively soon," says John Boehner.

The Obama administration will seek Congress permission to use force against the ISIL Takfiri militants in Iraq and Syria, both the White House and House Speaker John Boehner have said.

President Barack Obama will send "specific language" of an Authorization for the Use of Military Force to Congress "relatively soon," White House press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters Wednesday.

Also, Boehner told Capitol Hill reporters Thursday that he's "expecting ... [an AUMF] sent up here in the coming days."

"When it comes to fighting a war, Congress should not tie the President's hands," Boehner said. "And we're going to go through a rigorous set of hearings, and continue to discuss this."

The main stumbling block to new authorization so far has been the fact that the White House has not drafted AUMF language to Congress.

Obama has previously said he welcomes a new AUMF tailored to ISIL, although he thinks he currently has the authority to fight ISIL.

However, he has failed to send Congress draft language for what he wants in it, which is a step that typically helps initiate the war authorization process.

Meanwhile, the majority of lawmakers are not willing to pass an AUMF without sign-off from the White House, as a result, nothing has moved so far.

In addition, US officials say Washington is deploying more military equipment into Iraq as part of the strategy to fight the ISIL and to be better positioned in the event of downed planes.

The new deployment is reportedly part of a continuous rebalancing of search and rescue assets that are moved depending on the evolving airstrike campaign.

Also, senior US Senator Lindsey Graham says 10,000 American "boots on the ground" are required in Syria to stop the ISIL militants from “launching an attack” on the US.

The ISIL terrorists, who were initially trained by the CIA in Jordan in 2012 to destabilize the Syrian government, are engaged in crimes against humanity in the areas under their control.

They have been carrying out horrific acts of violence such as public decapitations and crucifixions against all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, and Christians.
