US senator tries to hide full report of CIA torture from public

The chairman of a powerful US Senate committee has been trying to ensure that the full Senate report about the controversial CIA torture program will never be released to the public.

According to the American Civil Liberty Union, Republican Senator Richard Burr, who leads the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, has written a letter to President Barack Obama over the issue. He's asked the president to order government agencies to return the full report to the Senate. ACLU says the senator may be getting help from the CIA. The rights group points out that the move is aimed at preventing accountability for the abuses carried out in the name of the nation. Many rights groups have called for the prosecution of those involved in the CIA torture program since a redacted version of the report was released in December last year.
