US military contractor confirms staff injured in Saudi shooting

A Saudi gas station where a gunman fatally shot an American and wounded another on Oct. 14, 2014

A US-based defense contractor has confirmed that the two Americans who were shot in Saudi Arabia this week were its employees.

"We can confirm that two Vinnell Arabia employees were involved in an incident on Friday, in which they were shot at by assailants in the al-Ahsa province of Saudi Arabia," the company said in a statement.

The company also said that the two workers were “injured but are in stable condition at a local hospital."

According to Saudi police, the two American nationals were riding in a car when it “came under fire from an unknown source" Friday afternoon in al-Ahsa.

The province is the largest governorate in Saudi Arabia's eastern region and the source of most of the kingdom's oil wealth.

The attack is the fourth against Western nationals in Saudi Arabia over the past four months.

In October, one Vinnell employee was fatally shot and another wounded at a gas station in the capital, Riyadh.

Vinnell Arabia provides training for the Saudi Arabian National Guard, which operates as a parallel army.
