Bomb attacks leave 14 dead in, around Baghdad

At least 14 people have been killed and dozens of others wounded in a series of bomb attacks in and around the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

According to police, four people were killed and 11 others wounded when a bomb went off in the town of Madain, about 20 kilometers (14 miles) southeast of Baghdad, on Saturday.

Elsewhere in central Baghdad, an explosion struck near a string of car repair shops, killing three people and wounding ten others.

Two Iraqi soldiers also lost their lives and four others were wounded in an explosion that hit an army patrol in the town of Taji, located approximately 30 kilometers (20 miles) north of Baghdad.

A bomb blast near a cafe in Baghdad’s district of Ameen killed two people and wounded nine others on Saturday night.

Moreover, in Baghdad’s southeastern district of Zafaraniya, police said a bomb attached to a minibus killed three passengers and injured six others.

Iraq’s overall security situation has worsened over the past few months as the ISIL Takfiri terrorists, of whom many are foreign nationals, have taken control of some parts of the country’s northern and western regions.

According to the United Nations, more than 1,100 people were killed and over 1,800 others wounded in terror attacks across the violence-torn Arab state in December 2014, making it the deadliest month since 2008.
