Two US citizens shot at in Saudi Arabia

Two US citizens were shot at in Saudi Arabia on Friday, and one of them was wounded. 

The two were traveling on a road in al-Ahsa, the largest governorate in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, police said in a statement.

The injured man was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

An investigation is underway, the statement, carried out by the state news agency, said.

It is not immediately known who shot at them and what the motivation was.

Saudi officials are concerned about the spread of violence from the conflicts in Yemen, Iraq and Syria.

An American citizen was killed and another was wounded by a gunman in the capital Riyadh last October.
