Lebanese Hezbollah kills two Israeli soldiers, injures 8 in retaliatory attack.

08:35 Lebanon's southern borders are calm, a day after Hezbollah's retaliatory attack against a military convoy of Israel. Sources close to Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam say he has received assurances that the border skirmishes won’t lead to war.

23:14 - In a statement, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon voiced deep “regrets” over the UN peacekeeper’s death, calling on all sides of the conflict to exercise “maximum calm and restraint”.

23:13 - The Security Council condemned “in the strongest terms” the death of Francisco Javier Soria Toledo, a Spanish UN peacekeeper killed during clashes between Lebanon and Israel.

Spain's Ambassador to the UN Roman Oyarzun Marchesi blamed the Israeli regime for the death of the peacekeeper.

"It was because of this escalation of violence, and it came from the Israeli side," he told reporters at the UN headquarters in New York City.
