US trying to ‘remold’ Iran on behalf of Israel: Researcher

The West is meddling in Iran’s internal affairs to reshape the country.

The West, led by the United States on behalf of Israel, is meddling in Iran’s internal affairs to "remold" the Islamic Republic in their own image, says a researcher based in Boynton Beach, Florida.

There is a determination to eventually invade Iran to set up a Western-style bank and take control of their oil reserves, Walt Peretto said during a phone interview with Press TV on Tuesday.

“The proposed Senate bill calling for additional sanctions against Iran seems like a ploy to distract us from focusing in on covert attempts to meddle with Iran’s internal affairs,” Peretto said.

“The West, led by the US on behalf of Israel and the international bankers, are both overtly and covertly aimed at remolding Iran in their own image,” he added.

The US Congress is pushing for a new round of sanctions against Iran if nuclear negotiations between Tehran and the P5+1 fall apart.

Talks are underway between Iran and the P5+1 group -- the US, Britain, China, France, Russia, and Germany -- to reach a comprehensive agreement over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

Meanwhile, a former CIA officer involved in a CIA covert operation aimed at sabotaging Iran’s nuclear program over a decade ago has been convicted of espionage charges, for giving classified information about his work to a New York Times reporter and author.

Jeffrey Sterling, 47, who was fired from the CIA in the early 2000s, was convicted on Monday of nine counts of unauthorized disclosure of US national defense information and other related charges. He faces years in prison.
