Pelosi: With Hillary Clinton, Democrats can recapture House

Nancy Pelosi, former speaker of the US House of Representatives

Nancy Pelosi says if Hillary Clinton runs for president in 2016 the Democratic Party will not only win the White House but it will also regain control of the US House of Representatives.

Pelosi, former speaker of the House, made the remarks in an interview at Capitol Hill with the Washington-based newspaper The Hill on Tuesday.

“Yes, we can win the House,” Pelosi said, adding that if the former US secretary of state runs, she will win the Democratic nomination. “And if she’s our nominee, she clearly — I mean, the campaign, the joint effort — would be one that could not only take her into office but would [pull Democrats to victory].”

“There’s opportunity, all kinds of statistics now about if the Democrats have a presidential candidate who … wins by 52 percent — that’s over 20 [House] seats,” Pelosi added. “And so 53 [percent] is a victory [for House Democrats].”

The Republican Party had not only captured a majority in the Senate in the November 4 midterm elections, but it had also achieved a historic victory in the House.

This has put President Barack Obama’s rivals in charge of both chambers of Congress during his last two crucial years in office.

Elsewhere in her remarks, the House minority leader said she hoped that Mitt Romney would be the Republican candidate against Clinton in the next presidential election, because he does not stand a chance of winning against her. “He might be a nice person — no offense, no offense — [but] let’s save you time.”

Clinton has not formally announced that she would run for the White House next year; however political observers have denounced her as a potential warmongering president.

A vote for Clinton in the 2016 presidential election would be a vote for Washington’s war machine, international lawyer Barry Grossman told Press TV in an interview in October last year.

Grossman, who is based on the Indonesian island of Bali, said, “I prefer not to express any opinion about US domestic policy, but it is difficult to imagine a candidate more simpatico with the neocon Pax Americana vision than Hillary Clinton.”

“Her record is there for all to see. Like her husband Bill, she is unabashedly pro-Israel and, when her rhetoric is peeled away, indifferent to the suffering of Palestinians and others in the region. She has a habit of receiving foreign dignitaries in Washington with a smile, only to later oversee their assassinations before going on to make jokes about it,” he stated.

Ron Paul, former Republican congressman and presidential candidate, has said that Clinton would be a pro-war, pro-military-industrial complex and pro-Federal Reserve president.

When Larry King asked Paul in a recent interview what kind of president Clinton would be, he said, “I would think she’d be pretty average, pretty mediocre, pretty much for war, pretty much for welfare-ism, pretty much for deficits, pretty supportive of the Federal Reserve and loving the military-industrial complex.”
