Saudi Arabia is an instrument for US policies in Mideast: Analyst

US President Barack Obama and the late Saudi King Abdullah

Saudi Arabia’s “warmongering regime” has been an instrument in the hands of the United States to sponsor Washington's terrorizing policies in the Middle East, according to political commentator Ralph Schoenman.

Speaking to Press TV in a phone interview on Sunday, Schoenman said the monarchy is “an indispensable instrument of US imperial control.”

He believes that Saudi Arabia is “the most repressive and reactionary and warmongering regime” that “is involved in every façade of the US imperial policy in the region.”

“The Saudi regime is an instrument for terrorizing the people of the region,” he said.

Schoenman also noted that “the relationship with Saudi Arabia and its absolute monarchy is in the fundamental aspect of the US imperialism and its control.”

He made the remarks while commenting on President Barack Obama’s statement on praising the late Saudi King Abdullah’s "enduring contribution to the search for peace" in the Middle East.

King Abdullah died at the age of 90 early on Friday after ruling the Saudi kingdom for nearly a decade. His 79-year-old half brother, Salman, has succeeded the late king.

Schoenman said the King's monarchy was involved in the US policies by “sponsoring the Jihadi mercenaries to overthrow the Syrian government, to sabotage Iran and to sustain what are basically terror operations at the Saudi’s finance.”

In an attempt to “pay respects” to the late king’s family and “offer his condolences on behalf of the American people,” Obama will cut short his three-day trip to India and head to Riyadh on Tuesday, said White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest.
