The ISIL Takfiri terrorists have been dealt another blow as Iraq’s security forces and Kurdish fighters killed nearly 50 militants.

On Saturday, Iraq’s security forces, backed by military aircraft and volunteer forces, retook control of al-Sodour dam near the city of Muqdadiyah, some 100 kilometers (62 miles) northeast of the capital, Baghdad, killing eight terrorists, according to Adnan al-Timimi, head of the town council.

An unidentified provincial security source told Xinhua news agency that the Iraqi troops killed three more would-be bombers wearing explosive vests at a village near the city.

Meanwhile, Iraqi security forces managed to liberate seven villages in Shirween rural area northeast of Muqdadiyah following heavy clashes that killed 10 ISIL militants, said Khudir Muslim, a member of Diyala provincial council.

Iraqi Kurdish fighters, also known as Peshmerga, have also reportedly killed at least 28 ISIL militants during the past 24 hours in battle in the north of Iraq’s militant-held city of Mosul.

Peshmerga fighters have recently reclaimed around 500 square kilometers of territory after launching a ground operation northwest of Mosul. The new gain cut ISIL’s main supply line from the city to the west.

ISIL started its campaign of terror in Iraq in early June 2014. The heavily-armed militants took control of Mosul before sweeping through parts of the country’s Sunni Arab heartland.

The terrorists have been carrying out horrific acts of violence, including public decapitations, against all Iraqi communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, and Christians.

The Iraqi army, backed by pro-government tribes, Shia volunteers and Kurdish Peshmerga forces, has so far managed to make significant gains in the fight against the terrorists.
