100 homes flooded in Bosnia capital after heavy rains

Around 100 homes in Bosnia’s capital, Sarajevo, have been flooded following heavy rainfall, forcing many people to evacuate their dwellings.

According to Sarajevo’s Civil Protection department on Monday, around 100 homes went underwater following heavy overnight rains which also blocked several roads and caused at least three landslides in the area.

This is the fifth flooding in the past 20 months in Bosnia’s capital and its suburbs.

Meanwhile, the reports say that the Bosna river in the country’s central part has reached a critical level, raising fear and worry among the residents of the area.

"It's chaotic here. I am afraid and I didn't sleep last night at all," said Enver Becirevic, who lives in the Doglodi suburb in Sarajevo, adding "We live in fear all the time."

Back in May 2014, devastating floods displaced over 90,000 people and greatly damaged infrastructures, agriculture industry and roads in over 40 percent of Bosnia’s territory.
