An independent non-governmental organization (NGO) has described the year 2014 as the toughest for Palestinian children, as the Tel Aviv regime continues its aggression against Palestinian kids on a daily basis in an attempt to intimidate the families under occupation.

According to Switzerland-based Defense for Children International, Israeli rights violations led to numerous fatalities, injuries as well as psychological trauma among Palestinian youngsters last year.

The NGO further pointed to Israel’s summer 2014 military aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip, as well as the detention and fatal shooting of children in the occupied West Bank and East al-Quds (Jerusalem) as flagrant violations of children’s rights.

The rights group added that the Gaza war left more than 480 children dead and thousands of others injured, and the offensive contributed to making 2014 the worst for Palestinian children.

The latest Israeli war on Gaza, which started on July 8, ended on August 26 with a truce that took effect after indirect negotiations in the Egyptian capital, Cairo. The onslaught killed at least 2,140 Palestinians and injured thousands of others.

According to initial figures, nearly 89,000 Palestinian homes were damaged in the Israeli military campaign. A total of 15,000 homes were either leveled to the ground or so badly damaged that are no longer habitable.

Defense for Children International added that military detention is a reality for hundreds of Palestinian children every year, noting that children are usually exposed to physical and psychological violence, their education is interrupted, and they suffer mental health issues while being kept in military detention.

The NGO highlighted that an average of 197 Palestinian children were detained by the Israeli military every month throughout 2014.

“At least 11 Palestinian children in the West Bank lost their lives in 2014 after they were shot with live ammunition by Israeli troops,” it stated.
