Women pray outside the Baqi cemetery. Saudi authorities have banned women from entering all graveyards in the country.
Security forces in Saudi Arabia have killed at least two Shia pilgrims and injured four others in the holy city of Medina.

Religious police and security forces clashed with female pilgrims who had gathered outside a cemetery to commemorate the death of the Prophet of Islam.

The pilgrims were seeking entry into the Baqi burial ground, which houses the graves of many of the Prophet's relatives and companions.

Women are not allowed to visit the graveyard according to the Wahabbi interpretation of Islam; therefore, Shia and Sunni women wishing to visit the graves are allowed only to stay outside the gates.

Saudi security guards filmed the incident and later arrested at least five people captured on tape while demonstrating.

Watch the pilgrims protest outside the cemetery.

The kingdom's moral police caused outrage on Sunday when officers used offensive language while addressing Shia women in the Prophet's Mosque in Medina.
