Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos says he is hopeless with the Iraq war, calling the US invasion a strategic mistake.

"The situation in that Arab country continues to be dramatic and unpredictable," said Miguel Angel Moratinos in an interview published by the Public on Monday.

"It is unacceptable that the international community wakes up every day with those images of death and desolation," he added.

Moratinos also said that the conflict in Afghanistan cannot be solved by force.

"Military strategy is not enough, rather a political strategy and a global approach are needed," noted the minister.

Moratinos, however, stated that the withdrawal of Spanish soldiers from the war-shattered country could take several years.
