The Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement has confirmed that a high-profile field commander of the group has been killed after the Israeli military carried out an airstrike targeting his vehicle in southern Lebanon close to the border with the 1948 occupied territories.

Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television news channel reported that Hussain Ibrahim Mekky was killed by Israeli fire in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, located 83 kilometers (51.5 miles) south of the capital Beirut.

The official National News Agency said another person was also killed in the Israeli strike.

Emergency responders said that two others were wounded in the strike, according to Reuters news agency.

Israel said Mekky was a senior field commander for Hezbollah’s southern front, who was responsible for planning and executing numerous attacks against the regime’s military installations and outposts since the start of the Gaza war.

Also on Tuesday, Israeli media outlets reported the death of a settler and the injury of five soldiers as a result of rockets launched from southern Lebanon.

According to the Hebrew-language Keshet 12 television channel, the settler was killed in the illegal Adamit settlement while providing assistance to Israeli troops. They were targeted by an anti-tank missile.

Later, Hezbollah’s military media bureau published the clip showing the circumstances of the operation.

Earlier, the Lebanese resistance movement successfully conducted an operation on multiple Israeli targets.

During the operation, Hezbollah fighters struck three sites associated with an Israeli spy balloon. They included the balloon’s launching base, its control mechanism, and the facility housing the crew responsible for managing the balloon.

The balloon had been launched over the Adamit settlement to monitor and spy on Lebanon.

The occupying Israeli regime has repeatedly launched attacks on southern Lebanon since October 7, after commencing a genocidal war in Gaza that has killed at least 35,173 Palestinians, predominantly women and children so far.

As a retaliatory measure, Hezbollah has been carrying out almost daily rocket attacks on Israeli positions.

At least 413 people have been killed on the Lebanese border, including more than 79 civilians, according to a tally by AFP.

Two Israeli wars waged against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006 were met with strong resistance from Hezbollah, resulting in the retreat of the regime in both conflicts.
