Taliban govt. bans journalists from working for UK-based 'Afghanistan International'
The Taliban government in Kabul has issued a warning to journalists and experts against working for London-based broadcaster 'Afghanistan International', saying it would be considered a criminal act.
Habib Ghofran, a spokesman of the Taliban's ministry of information and culture, said the station is engaged in violations and breaching moral and legal boundaries.
The Taliban leadership had "decided that participating in discussions and facilitating the broadcast of this media outlet in public places is prohibited”, he added.
Zia ul Haq Haqmal, the deputy minister for broadcasting, said individuals cooperating with the station will be viewed as engaging in unlawful activities.
He cited ten justifications for why people should refrain from associating themselves with the broadcaster, citing its manipulation of information.
“If someone does not cooperate on the basis of all these 10 reasons, then it's the court's job to give a punishment,” Haqmal said.
'Afghanistan International' commenced airing on August 14, 2021, a mere day prior to the Taliban seizing control of the Afghan capital, Kabul.
