Niger ejects US military

Last March, Niger announced that it had ended a defense agreement with the United States and declared American presence in the country illegal. The cancellation of the military pact between the two countries came after a visit to Niamey by a delegation of senior US military officials led by the under-secretary of state for African affairs.

Niger ended its military cooperation with the United States months after ejecting French troops from the country.

After ending military ties with the United States and former colonial power, France, Niger has joined neighboring Mali and Burkina Faso in fostering closer military ties with Russia. The recent arrival of Russian military instructors and equipment was further evidence of Niger's openness to closer cooperation with Moscow.

So, will this uranium-rich West African country effectively combat terrorists and insurgents with this new military partner?
