Iran’s star striker Mehdi Taremi bids farewell to FC Porto with last-minute goal

Portuguese football club Porto’s Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi scooped a last-minute goal in his team’s match against Boavista at Estádio do Dragão on Sunday to bid adieu on a high note.

Thanks to Taremi’s high-flying header in the 90+8th minute, the Dragons beat Boavista FC (2-1).

It was the Iranian striker’s final game for the Portuguese club in front of 33,000 spectators at the Estádio do Dragão in a match from the 33rd round of Liga Portugal Betclic.

Taremi will now play for Italian champions Inter Milan, which was confirmed by Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio last month, as reported by the Press TV website at the time.

Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio has confirmed the arrival of Iranian star striker Mehdi Taremi at the San Siro Stadium after reports about the potential transfer.

Taremi took to the field in the 59th minute of the game when both sides were evenly poised with no goals. Moments after he appeared on the field, Porto scored its first goal courtesy of Bruno.

In the 64th minute of the match, Boavista was left with 10 players on the field after Pedro Malheiro was handed a second yellow card, which gave the Porto an added advantage.

In the 81st minute, a header from Zé Pedro put the two sides on equal footing.

After the full time, the game appeared to be heading for a draw but Taremi rose to the occasion and scored a goal in the extra time, gifting crucial three points to his side in his farewell match.

The goal came after two close missed chances in the 88th and 95th minutes of the game.

After the winning goal, the celebrated Iranian striker turned emotional in front of the packed stadium as Porto supporters accorded him a fitting farewell.

Taremi, the 31-year-old start striker for Team Melli, Iran’s national football team, has been making waves in the European football circles with his superlative performances for FC Porto.

Top-flight football clubs in England and Italy have ramped up efforts in recent days to sign Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi, who currently plays for the Portuguese football club FC Porto.

Last season, he weighed in with an impressive tally of 31 goals and 10 assists for the top-rung Portuguese football team, impressing all and sundry with his skills and talent.

Out of 31 goals, 7 came in the Champions League, which catapulted him to international fame and prompted top-rung clubs in the English Premier League to make bets on him.

Last month, Inter Milan's sporting director confirmed the arrival of the Iranian star striker at the San Siro Stadium months, ending months of speculation about the transfer.

In an interview with the DAZN sports streaming platform, Ausilio said his side, which won its 20th Serie A title after beating rivals AC Milan at the San Siro, look to strengthen their bench with the arrival of Taremi from Porto and Piotr Zielinski from Napoli.

“This is the moment to all rejoice together, we have already done a little something and perhaps a little too quickly because now everyone expects more,” he was quoted as saying.
