Iran to US, Israel: You can't eliminate Palestinian resistance from Gaza

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

Iran's foreign minister has advised the United States and the Israeli regime against trying to eliminate the Palestinian resistance from the Gaza Strip.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks among reporters in Moscow on Tuesday at the end of the 12th annual summit of the foreign ministers of the five Caspian Sea littoral states, Caspian Five.

"The US and the Zionist regime are incapable of either eliminating Hamas and the resistance or making decisions instead of the people of Palestine and Gaza," the Iranian top diplomat said.

The remarks came amid an October 7-present war by the Israeli regime against the Gaza Strip, which has enjoyed all-out political and military support from the US.

Israeli and American officials have suggested throughout the war that the coastal sliver might not be ruled by the Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas in the aftermath of the military campaign.

The movement, which has been ruling the territory since 2006 on the back of its victory in democratic elections, has, however, vowed to withstand the campaign, saying it can defend the territory despite the ferocious onslaught for months.

Hamas "is at the height of popularity today," Amir-Abdollahian said, adding, "The resistance has a high capability to withstand this situation for months and continue its daytime and nighttime [retaliatory] attacks against the Zionists' atrocities."

The United States thinks it can make decisions instead of the Palestinian people for the manner of post-war Gaza's management, he said.

The Iranian official advised Washington, though, to stop carrying on with its "strategic mistake," saying, "Leave Palestine to Palestinians, and [thus] avoid another great regional defeat for America, especially on the verge of [the US's] presidential elections."
